– Hilarious quote that Laura read today that is apparently from Shostakovich himself about Symphony No. 5, which just happens to be what our Honor Orchestra is playing this year! Love it haha

Songs I Love- I'll Follow You Into the Dark →
Loving this song lately. I’m not a HUGE Death Cab for Cutie fan, but I really like this one. Love of mine some day you will die But I'll be close behind I'll follow you into the dark No blinding light or tunnels to gates of white Just our hands clasped so tight Waiting for the hint of a spark If heaven and hell decide That they both are satisfied Illuminate the no's on their vacancy signs...

Communication Gap between Millenials and Senior... →
Great article! Oh how I hate the debate of millennials being “entitled” , but this article is the first for me that raises some good points. Neither sad is accurate, just a difference in communications, both sides need to work on.

Starfish Initiative
One of my  job responsibilities include occasionally representing Music for All at trade shows and conventions. The majority of the time it’s a music educator convention, where a lot of the attendees already know who we are, at least in a vague sense. But occasionally, we go somewhere where the attendees have no idea who Music for All is. This past Saturday I represented Music for All at...

Waiting for Superman
So I just finished watching Davis Guggenheim’s documentary “Waiting for Superman,” twice. Yes, I watched it two times in a row. Because I was afraid I had missed some things in the beginning.  I am now all sorts of fired up about Education reform. I have always claimed I have never been big on politics. If someone asks me if I’m democrat or republican, I get incredibly vague and say it depends on...

“I want a person who comes into my life by accident, but stays on purpose.”
– Read this tonight and it’s exactly what I needed to read. Smiling from ear to ear. Yes, the best is when it happens so unexpectedly…and you have no idea where it’s going, but you just go with it anyway. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I WANT.       :) :)

Balance
What do you want to be when you grow up? My goal was always to be happy. How I would arrive at that happiness has changed over the years. For a really long time I associated happiness with being successful in my career. The plan was to work really hard to get into college, work hard in college to get an internship, work hard in the internships to get a job. Then I’d be happy. I had fun,...

Pinterest is my favorite new site! I spend a lot of time pinning, and looking at pins. I wish that more of my friends knew about this awesome site! I get so many creative ideas, recipes, inspiring quotes, outfit ideas, etc from pinterest. So how does it work? It basically just catalogs pictures of things you like, and the picture is attached to the link of where you got the picture from....

The Fear You Won't Fall
A combination of Josh Radin music, a conversation with my mom, and some discussion with the boy have me feeling very introspective tonight. I was telling my mom about a new person I’ve gone on some dates with, somebody who I’m pretty excited about…someone who gives me the butterflies I’ve been wanting. She said towards the end of our conversation. “That all sounds...

Censored Self
I don’t tell many people about my blog. I don’t hide it, but it’s not something I openly share with everyone. There’s no link from my facebook, occasionally a post will show up on my Twitter because I never remember I have my tumblr linked to Twitter until after I publish a post. I don’t know why I don’t really tell people about it. I don’t really write...

Online Dating
So I’m going to be real open with my life. I started online dating with match.com last month. It still feels weird, but hey. I’m in a new city, and it’s nice to meet people, for the most part. I’m probably going to start sharing a lot about my dates, mostly because they are usually absolutely ridiculous.  Today I got an email. First time this guy contacts me. All the...

Joe and I “broke” up about two months ago now. I’m using the term loosely here by the way, but that’s a story for another day. Anyway, I dont like to admit it, but o frequently look at his Facebook page. I have no idea why, he doesn’t use it much. His friends don’t comment, he never posts pictures…but still I look. Today, I noticed he deleted several...

I'm a bad blogger
I admit it. I suck at blogging. When I have a lot to say, I can’t bring myself to take the 5 minutes and blog because I feel to busy. I miss a lot of the good stuff. So what’s going on in my little Post Grad world? I have a full time job that’s waaaay more than full time haha. I travel every weekend in the fall during marching seasons. But I am absolutely loving it. I took...

The Journey
Once upon a time I dreamed of the big city, an amazingly glamorous job, and a closet full of expensive shoes.  What was the key to the good life in all these dreams? College. Get into college, go to college, graduate college and then it would all be mine. So that’s what I did. A million essays and scholarship applications, working hard to get good grade in high school, all to get into...

My Personality Type: ESFJ
I love taking personality tests. I’ve always had a passion for analyzing myself, and I like to see if the results vary on my personality based on what test it is I’m taking. I’ve taken a lot of different ones, mostly from being a part of Residential Life at Ferris State. In Res Life all you do is staff development, professional development, team building….and it all...

Phone Interviews
I absolutely hate phone interviews.  For some reason I get even more worked up/ nervous about a phone interview then I get over a normal face-2-face interview. I think it has a  lot to do with not being able to gauge the interviewers reactions to my responses. Also a phone interview is usually just a preliminary interview, so I start thinking “I have to do this well, or I won’t even...

Writer's Block
I’ve been job searching for 5 months straight now. I have written hundreds of cover letters. Whenever I find a job posting that I get really excited about, I get writer’s block. I want it to be perfect. I want it to impress upon whoever reads it, that I want that job because I am perfect for it. It’s the one chance to get the interview. So many of my cover letters/ resumes have...

Autumn Alive- Phil Vassar
I was flipping through the channels tonight and came across a taping of a Phil Vassar concert. The concert is taped at some Amphitheater in Ohio. It caught my attention because the song Vassar was singing as I happened to click on the channel was very off key. It surprised me because I’ve seen him live and up-close, and I know he doesn’t normally sing off key at concerts. I know the acoustics...

I love reading posts by intelligent people on controversial topics. I’ve often had mixed feelings about the idea of marriage, and I think this post brings up some valid points. Enjoy! :) -erin … … I’m a strong proponent of LGBT rights, but recently, I’ve begun to think the focus on marriage equality is terribly misguided. Marriage has never been about what people personally...

Why the Music Industry?
I graduated from college this past May, and I finished my final internship with the Percussive Arts Society in the beginning of January. The past 2 months have been the first time I have been back to the place where I grew up for an extended period of time in four years. I have been seeing a lot of people I used to know. People I graduated high school with. People that know my parents. Former...

Building a Network →
I just read this article (the title above is linked!) from the Jobs section of philly.com today. I was directed to the article by @thescottbishop on Twitter. It reminded me of a very important thing to remember in networking. Collecting business cards, or contacts on LinkedIn and Twitter do not matter. It does not matter how many you have, it matters what you do with those business cards, or...

Tips for Recent Grads →
Interesting article that was passed along via twitter. Reading this reminded me of a meeting I was in last year. I was working for residential life at Ferris State University and my staff had to go in for a meeting with the director of Residential Life because of some comments that were written on our employee satisfaction surveys. The department put a survey out to the RAs and Desk Managers...
