Tips for Recent Grads

Interesting article that was passed along via twitter.

Reading this reminded me of a meeting I was in last year. I was working for residential life at Ferris State University and my staff had to go in for a meeting with the director of Residential Life because of some comments that were written on our employee satisfaction surveys.

The department put a survey out to the RAs and Desk Managers asking us how we felt about our jobs, about the support from the directors, and things like that.

Many people had been very unhappy with Res Life at the time and wrote honest answers about how they felt the department didn’t listen to their opinions or care about them , things like that.

I remember this meeting because the director called the staff in there to discuss the surveys. Some of my staff members choose this time to tell him exactly what had happened to make them so upset with the department and the director replied:

“Your generation questions when they shouldn’t. your generation complains constantly. What are you going to do when you are in the real world.”

Ever since I’ve been a little touchy about this whole “your generation” thing…
